Google is the most popular search engine

  1. In order to search for an exact word or phrase put in as many of the words you know in the search bar and wrap it in quotations (searching song lyrics for example, or a quote).
  2. If you want to search for something on a specific site type what your looking for but then put the site after like so, (Lipstick: Sephora) or (lipstick: sephora.com). All the results that show up will be from Sephora’s website
  3. In order to correctly search for a definition type the word and follow it with :definition for example (remedy: definition)
  4. To search for a specific product at a specific price point search the name of the product and the price for example ( Phone case $20 dollars) If you want to create a price range use two periods in between the price points. For example (Phone case $20..$30)
  5. To search for a specific filetype enter what your searching for followed by filetype:PDF for example (hunger games filetype:pdf)
  6. In refine searches in order to add or ignore words and control what does or doesn’t come up in your search put a – sign in front of the word that you want to ignore and a + in front a word you want to include. For example ( Fast food – McDonald’s) or( Jackets + Canada Goose)
  7. If you want to find a page or site that is similar to an existing one include similar: before the website you want it to resemble. For example (Similar: Clubmonaco.ca)
  8. If your looking to search for an exact quote on a page but you are missing some of the words, fill those unknown words with an asterisk. For example: ( You must be the * you wish to see in the world)
  9. How would you search for pages containing two connected words? Put the word AND in between them. (things like this can also be done in advanced search)
  10. When searching for social media content containing a specific tag use the hashtag symbol followed by the content your targeting. For example (#Raptors).
